ExxonMobil Taps Helix for Three-Year Decommissioning Deal in Gulf of Mexico

Helix Energy Solutions, a leading U.S.-headquartered offshore energy services provider, has secured a significant plug and abandonment (P&A) agreement with U.S. energy major ExxonMobil in the Gulf of Mexico. This three-year framework agreement, awarded to Helix’s Louisiana-based shallow water abandonment group, Helix Alliance, solidifies their role in crucial decommissioning services for offshore infrastructure.

The contract underscores Helix’s commitment to delivering high-value, fit-for-purpose solutions in the growing decommissioning market. Owen Kratz, President and Chief Executive Officer of Helix, emphasized this point: “This agreement underscores our commitment to delivering high-value, fit-for-purpose decommissioning services.” He added, “This agreement also demonstrates Helix Alliance’s position as a trusted partner for comprehensive offshore solutions, providing well intervention, diving, heavy lift, and marine support services on the U.S. Gulf of Mexico shelf.”

This deal highlights Helix Alliance’s expertise in handling the complex requirements of P&A operations, which are a vital component of offshore decommissioning. Their comprehensive suite of services positions them as a key player in ensuring the safe and environmentally responsible closure of offshore wells.

In other company news, Helix Robotics Solutions, the robotics division of Helix Energy Solutions, recently secured a contract in March with Italian cable systems giant Prysmian for its T1400-2 trencher, which began deployment this month. This marks the first major use of the T1400-2 system since its acquisition, refurbishment, and integration into Helix’s asset fleet, showcasing the company’s continuous investment in advanced technology across its diverse service offerings.
