Second platform in operation at Terubuk field in Indonesia

Independent Medco Energi has boosted production at its Terubuk field offshore its native Indonesia.

Medco in July bought into operation its Terubuk M wellhead platform, which enabled the field’s output capacity to increase to 6600 barrels per day of oil. The new facility alone contributes 3000 bpd of oil and 40 million cubic feet of gas to the total.

“With the start of WHP-M operations, it means that the Terubuk project is now under way,” deputy for exploitation at Indonesia’s upstream regulator SKK Migas, Taufan Marhaendrajana, was quoted by national news agency Antara.

Terubuk’s WHP M reportedly started up more than three months ahead of schedule, due in no small part to the quick fabrication of the structure, which was one month faster than the initial WHP L.

All phases of the Terubuk field development — from design to execution — were performed by Indonesian professionals and the project, including the two wellhead platforms, recorded more than 750,000 working hours without incident, added Antara.

WHP M combines innovation and sustainability to boost operational efficiency and reliability, specifically by using solar photovoltaic technology for supplementary power, along with digital microwave radio, and integrated control and safety systems for remote monitoring and control.

Medco earlier this year brought on stream its Forel and Terubuk fields located on the South Natuna Sea Block B production sharing contract, which together will add gross production of up to 20,000 bpd of oil and 60 MMcfd of gas.

The $600 million offshore fields development also includes the Marlin Natuna floating, production, storage and offloading vessel — which was converted by PaxOcean in Batam, Indonesia — that is deployed on Forel.
