The World Energy Council has announced that Australia has officially joined as the newest member committee, marking a step forward in strengthening the global energy dialogue and collaboration.
The Australian Member Committee will be hosted by the Australian Institute of Energy (AIE), an organisation committed to advancing knowledge and understanding of energy across Australia.
The inclusion of Australian energy needs and interests will support the Council’s agenda to progress faster, fairer and more far-reaching energy transitions, and underscores Australia’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.
Dr Angela Wilkinson, secretary general and CEO of the World Energy Council, welcomed the inclusion of Australian experiences and achievements, emphasising the strategic importance of the new Member Committee.
Said Wilkinson: “We are delighted to welcome Australian energy leadership into the World Energy Council’s diverse, inclusive and intergenerational community. As a key player in the Asia-Pacific region, Australia’s inclusion will be pivotal in driving forward new and innovative solutions to the energy challenges of today and tomorrow.”
As the home for the Member Committee, the Australian Institute of Energy, with its strong commitment to energy policy development and advocacy, will play an instrumental role in advancing Australia’s objectives within the World Energy Council. As part of the Council network, they will collaborate with energy leaders and experts across the globe to address the most pressing challenges facing the energy sector.
Katie McKenzie, president of AIE, expressed enthusiasm for the new collaboration, noting the significance of the partnership for Australia’s energy future.

The Australia Member Committee will have a seat at the table in the World Energy Council’s global discussions – particularly its flagship World Energy Congress.
