Australia urged to implement ‘wide range’ of energy sources for economic growth

Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill says energy is “essential” to economic prosperity.

The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed doubt over whether Labor’s 82 per cent renewables by 2030 target is achievable, pointing to the “great challenge” rising energy costs are posing for Australians.

“In a country like Australia, similar to the US, you are going to need a wide range of energy sources to meet the needs of consumers, households and businesses that want to grow,” Ms O’Neill told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood.

“The US is a great example of an economy that is developing all sources of energy – it’s got oil, it’s got natural gas, it’s got solar, it’s got wind, it’s got nuclear – everything is in the mix.”
