The WA Government has signed a collaborative agreement with the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre (AMGC) to open up future opportunities for wind energy manufacturing in Western Australia.
The agreement is set to facilitate various avenues of support for local businesses, ranging from prequalification processes for wind turbine componentry to infrastructure upgrades and expert guidance.
By nurturing homegrown talent and expertise, the initiative not only amplifies Western Australia’s energy capabilities but also fosters a renewable future for the state.
Minister Stephen Dawson said the significant role of wind energy has the potential to bolster local manufacturing.
“The Cook government is leveraging the potential of wind to galvanise our local manufacturing sector, paving the way for a renewable-driven economy. We have a growing number of onshore wind farms in Western Australia, representing a significant opportunity for our local advanced manufacturing industry,” said Dawson.
The agreement follows recommendations from an independent feasibility study by Aurecon, commissioned by the state government.
The study’s findings underscored Western Australia’s advanced manufacturing prowess, fuelled by cross-sectoral expertise spanning defence, resources, and energy.
With a strong foundation, the state has the potential to capitalise on opportunities within the wind energy supply chain.
